Seamus pix...

11.5 weeks...It is so wonderful to have a fuzzy warm brown thing on my left hip once again!!
He loves being in Jim's lap, too ~
Um, Seamus...
...that's where the paw wiping towel and the comb/brush live! But then again, you do fit perfectly in it!!!

Carlin ~

The best ~

Jim and I went to see him in Las Vegas in the mid-eighties... I have NEVER laughed so hard in my entire life! I gave myself a WICKED case of heartburn!!!

He made you laugh, but more important ~ he made you think... The world has lost a genius.

Home again, home again...

...jiggety jig!

Yep ~ I got sprung this afternoon! Much less tenderness (tho still a bit in the LLQ) ~ low residue diet for a few weeks, then advance to a high fiber one. PO ABX for another week or so; colonoscopy in about 6 months. (oh, yippee)

Seamus was gratifyingly glad to see me; I've been licked from stem to stern! And I got a much needed infusion of puppy smell/breath!!

One thing I must make note of... I was VERY impressed by all the staff I encountered while I was in... and you know how hard it is to impress me!! I'll be writing a long letter to the DON later this evening...

It is SO good to be home!!!

In the hospital...

Yup ~ dats where I be!! :-((( I'd been fighting off some sharp, crampy lower abd. pain since Monday AM... so bad at times it had me walking doubled over. Kept NOT wanting to go to ER, because I hate that whole mob scene so much. Finally got in to see my reg. doc yesterday late afternoon; next thing I know, I'm being admitted! WTF?!?!

Differential diagnosis ~ partial bowel obstruction vs diverticulitis UGH

CT this AM ~ diverticulitis In hospital a couple more days for IVF (can you say dehydrated as hell???), IV ABX, then home.

I knew I had bad veins, but now I know just how bad. The one they started late yesterday afternoon in my only good vein blew at 0230 this AM; someone FINALLY got a 22 in me a couple of hours ago! Pincushion city!

One thing that has made me very grateful... all the staff I've dealt with so far have been great...

Off to nap...

A nice story, but...

So OK... this is a real sweet story. Dying woman's wish fulfilled; lovers united for all time, etc, etc...
All well and good, except for these 2 phrases, which made my poor little ICU nurse brain spin, and elevated my blood pressure to "Patent over Pending" levels...

1. "in the ICU" and
2. "her doctors say she has only a few days to live"

WHAT THE BLOODY FLIPPING HELL IS A TERMINAL CANCER PATIENT DOING IN AN ICU??????????????????????????

Now, before anyone has a stroke...

I know my co-workers will understand... the patient is not intubated; she is able to sip sparkling juice, and kiss her hubby... she is using a venti mask.

For my non-medical friends, let me explain... ICU's, by definition, are for those who have some hope of surviving. They are NOT for people who are not expected to live more than "a few days". Putting such a patient in an ICU is a total and complete waste of valuable resources ~ bed space, nurses, respiratory therapists, etc.

Don't get me wrong ~ I believe she should receive the best care possible; but an ICU is not the appropriate setting for it!!!

OK ~ I'm going to go inhale some puppy breath now, and try to calm down...
